3/17/14: RI Senate Passes Bill Allowing Police To Give Verbal Warning to Those Smoking with Child in Car
A bill in the Rhoda Island Senate that allows for police officers to provide a verbal warning to an individual who is smoking in a vehicle containing a restrained child has passed 35-0. Police can notify the smoker about the dangers of smoking with the child in the car but they cannot stop or search a motor vehicle based solely on the individual’s decision to smoke with a child in the car.
